Handicaps

Information on your Handicap.

Having an official handicap is a key part of being a member of a Golf Club and ensuring that your handicap is an accurate reflection of your current playing ability makes the game fair and enjoyable for all.

To obtain your first handicap
All that you need to do is submit three cards from your rounds at High Elms. They need to be signed by another member and placed in the relevant box for your section. (The men's cards go through the letterbox in the clubroom door; ladies and seniors have boxes in the clubroom.) Please mark the cards FOR NEW HANDICAP.

Handicap Maintenance
Each qualifying competition that you enter will adjust your handicap so it is important to enter at least three each year to keep your handicap up to date. You enter competitions by signing in on the entry terminal which is on your left as you leave the Pro shop towards the stairs. You need to place your entry fee in an envelope and put it in the relevant box for your section. When you have played your round then enter your gross score for each hole into the terminal, check that your total score is correct and press accept. Put your completed scorecard into the relevant box for your section (See above). Results for each competition will be posted in the clubroom along with any handicap adjustments. If at any stage you are asked for a PIN number this will be the last three digits of your
membership number.

To reduce your handicap
If you are playing well and feel that your handicap should be lower then you can apply to have it reduced under Rule 19. You can either write to or telephone your handicap secretary to request this; their details are at the bottom of the page. It is not possible to submit single cards for handicap reduction or increase.

Annual Review
The handicap committee for each section will carry out an annual review of all handicaps before February 1st each year. Handicaps will be lowered for any individuals deemed to be playing better than their handicap. There is also a facility to raise handicaps in exceptional circumstances such as injury or long term illness. If you feel that you have a case for increase then apply to your Handicap secretary by December 10th each year.

To get a handicap certificate
The entry terminal screen has an option to request a certificate, if you request one a message vvill appear the next time your Handicap Secretary uses the system. They will print and sign a certificate and it will be left in the clubroom for collection.
